Pair: Corporal H. M. Grotier, Border Regiment

Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 5 clasps, Cape Colony, Tugela Heights, Orange Free State, Relief of Ladysmith, Transvaal (4595 Corp. 1st Border Regt.) rank renamed; King’s South Africa 1901-02, 2 clasps (Corpl., 1st Border Regt.) this last renamed with copy clasps, mounted as worn from a silver brooch bar, good very fine (2) £160-200

Henry Martin Grotier was born in Whitechapel, London. A Carman by occupation and a member of the 5th Battalion Royal Fusiliers (Militia), he attested for regular service in the Border Regiment at London on 22 November 1894. With the regiment he served in Malta, November 1897-September 1899 and South Africa, September 1899-November 1901.

Grotier was discharged at Fermoy on 20 November 1901 having been found medically unfit for further service. Grotier died of lung cancer at Southgate on 2 May 1937.

With copied service, medical and discharge papers and roll extracts. In addition to the clasps on hs Q.S.A., he was entitled to the clasp South Africa 1901’.
