Pair: Private F. J. Allen, Lincolnshire Regiment, wounded at the battle of Atbara, 8 April 1898

Frederick John Allen was born in Stapleton, near Bristol. Empoyed in the soap making industry and a member of the 3rd Battalion Royal West Surrey Regiment, he attested for regular service with the Lincolnshire Regiment at Aldershot on 11 October 1892, aged 18 years 1 month. With the 1st Battalion he served overseas in Malta, February 1895-February 1897; Egypt and Sudan, February 1897-October 1898; and India, October 1898-November 1902. He suffered a gunshot wound at the battle of Atbara, 8 April 1898. Allen was transferred to the Army Reserve in October 1904 and discharged on 10 October 1908.
