Four: Sergeant E. Dewhurst, Royal Marine Artillery

Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, undated reverse, 1 clasp, Suakin 1885 (Gunr., R.M.); British War Medal 1914-20 (R.M.A. 1458 Sgt.); Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., V.R. (Edwd. Dewhurst, Gunner No 1458 R.M.A.) impressed naming; Khedive’s Star 1884-6, unnamed, with solder marks to reverse lower ray, edge bruising, contact marks, good fine and better (4) £280-320

Edward Dewhurst was born in Co. Durham in December 1862 and enlisted into the Royal Marine Artillery at Sunderland on 4 September 1882. Awarded £5 for service in the Sudan, 1884-85. Awarded the long service medal in April 1893. As a Sergeant he was discharged to the R.F.R. in 1904. Re-appointed a Sergeant in the R.M.A. in August 1914 and served throughout the Great War, employed with recruiting in Manchester. With copied service paper and Egypt Medal roll extract.
