Tudor Lay was born in Leamington on 2 October 1853, the son M.J. Lay (a Master Mariner) and Lucy Lay. As a Lieutenant in the 109th Regiment, he maried Julia Marieu Kysh at the Parish Church of Berwick-upon-Tweed, on 1 May 1880.
