Four: Private J. Stratton, Royal Marine Light Infantry

South Africa 1877-79, 1 clasp, 1879 (Pte., R.M. H.M.S. “Forester”); Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, undated reverse, 2 clasps, Suakin 1885, Tofrek (Pte., R.M.L.I.); Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., V.R. (Jas Stratton, Pte. No. 991 Chat. R.M.L.I.) impressed naming; Khedive’s Star 1884-6, unnamed, first two with some edge bruising and contact marks, nearly very fine and better (4) £750-850

James Stratton was born in Farringdon on 1 June 1856. A Labourer by occupation, he enlisted into the Royal Marines at Reading on 29 April 1876. Served on H.M.S. Forester, January 1878-January 1882; H.M.S. Asia, September-October 1883 and with the R.M. Battalion in Egypt, October 1884-May 1885. Discharged invalided on 11 February 1896.
