Provenance: Bought Spink 1962.

Denis Maloney was born in 1822 at Riverston, Birr, County Tipperary. A Labourer by trade, he enlisted at Birr on 11 December 1840, aged 19, for unlimited service. He embarked for India in the
Glenelg on 1 March 1841, and arrived there on the 20th July following. Posted as a Private to the 1st Bombay European Regiment, he was transferred as a Gunner to the 2nd Company, 1st Battalion, Bombay Artillery, on 6 September 1842, and served in that Battery during the Scinde campaign. He transferred to the 3rd Company in 1843 and was discharged by purchase in September 1852.
