Provenance: Glendining, July 1906 and February 1924.

John Bales was recruited for the 23rd Light Dragoons during the quarter July-September 1807. He was taken prisoner after the battle of Talavera in July 1809, most probably wounded, and remained a prisoner in France until 30 May 1814, when he rejoined his regiment. He served at Waterloo in Captain McNeil’s No. 3 Troop and was discharged ‘not recommended’ on 2 April 1817. Sold with research extracted from muster rolls and pay lists.
