1914 Star (2) (6282 Pte. B. Phipps, 2/Lan. Fus.; 3-10303 Pte. F. W. Stewart, 2/North’n. R.) good very fine (2) £80-100

Benjamin Phipps was born in Lambeth, London. A Musician by occupation, he attested for the Lancashire Fusiliers on 11 January 1901, aged 15 years. With them he served in Malta, November 1901-October 1902; Gibraltar, October 1902-February 1905, Malta, February-July 1905 and again, March-November 1907, and India, November 1907-January 1913. He was discharged having completed his period of service in February 1913. Re-engaging in May 1913, he served with the 3rd Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers in the Great War, entering France on 26 October 1914. Received a gunshot wound to the forehead on 22 June 1915. Twice tried by court martial during 1916 for being absent without leave. Discharged in June 1919.

Private Francis W. Stewart, 2nd Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment, entered France on 8 November 1914. Later served with the ASC.
