Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 2 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State (Lieut. A. H. Murray. Gren: Gds:) brilliant extremely fine £1500-2000

Lieutenant Alastair Heneage Murray, Grenadier Guards, died on 3 June 1900, from wounds received in action at Biddilphberg, May 29th. He was the eldest son of C. J. Murray, Esq., M.P. for Coventry, and of Lady Anne Murray, was born in April 1878, and educated at Eton (Mr Broadbent’s). He entered the Grenadier Guards from the 3rd Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders, in November 1899. During the battle at which Lieutenant Murray was mortally wounded, he received a compound fracture of the thigh and was severely burned by the fire on the veldt.
