Ashanti Star 1896, reverse arms engraved, ‘2171 Pte. J. Fligg, 2 W. Yorks R.’, good very fine £350-400

John Fligg was born in Adel, Selby, Yorkshire. A Shoeing Smith by occupation, he attested for the West Yorkshire Regiment at York on 8 February 1888, aged 20 years. With them he served in India, March 1891-November 1895; Gibraltar, November-December 1895, and West Africa, December 1895-February 1896. He was discharged on 23 February 1901 on completion of his first period of engagement.
