Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 1 clasp, Defence of Lucknow (J. Maxey, 32nd L.I.) good very fine £1200-1400

Jeremiah Maxey was born in Fethard, Co. Tipperary. A Nailor by occupation, he attested for the 34th Regiment at Cashel, Co. Tipperary on 8 June 1846, aged 20 years. He transferred to the 32nd Regiment in April 1849. Serving with the regiment as an original defender at the defence of Lucknow, he was severely wounded on 30 June 1857 - suffering a gunshot wound to the right leg (roll extract and published casualty roll gives date as 30 July 1857; discharge papers state 30 June 1857). As a result of his wound he was found to be unfit for further military service and was discharged at Chatham on 8 March 1859. With copied discharge papers and roll extract.
