India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Bhootan (Lieut. H. W. D. Riley, H.Ms. 55th Regt.) edge bruising, contact marks, nearly very fine £380-420

Henry Whewell D. Riley was born in Clifton on 15 January 1840. He purchased an Ensigncy in the 55th Regiment on 5 March 1858 and a Lieutenancy on 29 July 1859. He was promoted to Captain without purchase on 4 January 1868; Major on 1 July 1881 and Lieutenant-Colonel on 21 June 1887. Served in the East Indies, November 1863-January 1870. Serving in the Bhootan campaign, he engaged in the recapture of Dewangiri. Was appointed Commanding Officer of the 2nd Battalion Border Regiment on 20 October 1889. Placed on Half Pay in October 1893; promoted to Colonel in December 1893 and retired in February 1895. With copied service papers and other research.
