A group of six miniature dress medals attributed to Surgeon-General A. M. Crofts, Indian Medical Service

Aylmer Martin Crofts was born on 24 May 1854. Qualified as L.R.C.S. Ed. 1876; L.R.C.P. Ed. 1877. Appointed a Surgeon in the Indian Medical Service in March 1877; promoted to Surgeon-Major in March 1889; Surgeon Lieutenant-Colonel in March 1897; Colonel in October 1908 and Surgeon-General in April 1911. Served in Afghanistan, 1878-80, with the Kandahar and Khaibar Field Forces, present at Jagdalak. Served in Egypt in 1882, present at Kassassin and Tel-el-Kebir. On the N.W. Frontier, Zhob Valley in 1884 and in China 1900. Was awarded the C.I.E. in May 1900 and the Hessen Order of Philip the Magnanimous in 1904. Surgeon-General Crofts retired from the service on 25 May 1914 and died in London on 12 April 1915.
