John Callaghan was born in and enlisted at Dumbarton. Serving with the 5th Battalion Cameron Highlanders, he was killed in action at the battle of the Somme on 18 July 1916, aged 27 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. He was the son of John and Mary Callaghan, of 10, Poindfauld Terrace, Dumbarton. With copied casualty details.
