James Gray Renton was born in Partick, Glasgow and lived and enlisted at Glasgow, serving initially with the 6th Battalion Highland Light Infantry. When serving with the 5th Battalion Cameron Highlanders he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 10 May 1915 and was killed in action on 25 September 1915, aged 22 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial. He was the son of John and Janet Renton, of 1020 Dumbarton Road, Glasgow. With copied m.i.c. and casualty details.
