At the outbreak of war the 3rd Hussars were stationed at Shorncliffe. They entered France on 17 August 1914 as part of the 4th Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division.

Albert Clement Victor Kemp was born in Euston, Suffolk, on Christmas Day of 1889. He joined the 3rd Hussars c.1908 and served in France from 15 August 1914. He was wounded in action at Rifle Wood on 1 April 1918. Postwar he continued to serve with his regiment and was awarded the Army L.S. & G.C. in 1926, by which time he was a Squadron Quartermaster Serjeant. After his discharge, he was employed by the Ministry of Works and was awarded the Coronation Medal 1953 as Supervisory Depot Clerk at Windsor Castle.
