A Second World War B.E.M group of four awarded to Carpenter and Pumpman J. Ruxton, Merchant Navy, late Royal Engineers

British Empire Medal, (Civil) G.VI.R., 1st issue (John Ruxton), in its card box of issue and registered forwarding envelope; 1914-15 Star (67282 Cpl. J. Ruxton, R.E.); British War and Victory Medals (67282 J. Ruxton, R.E.), together with Anglo-American Oil Company Long Service Lapel Badge, silver-gilt and enamel, with paste stones to two arm points, the reverse engraved, ‘J. Ruxton, Aug. 1930’, in its Toye & Co. Ltd. fitted box, good very fine and better (5) £300-350

John Ruxton, who was born in South Shields in May 1890, enlisted in the Royal Engineers in the Great War, witnessed active service out in France and attained the rank of Corporal.

A Carpenter employed by the Anglo-American Oil Company by the renewal of hostilities, he served in the Empire Oil until removing to the D. L. Harper in April 1944, and it was for his services in the latter vessel that he was awarded his B.E.M. Ruxton came ashore in late 1955.

Sold with original Buckingham Palace forwarding letter for the B.E.M., dated 4 July 1947, and notification of award letter from the Ministry of War Transport, dated 8 January 1946, together with a contract with the Esso Transportation Co. Ltd., dated 4 April 1953, for employment as a Carpenter.
