Frederick Green, who was born at Soton in January 1890, was awarded the R.H.S. Medal, in bronze, for his attempted rescue of fellow crew member from the R.M.S. Thames on 26 December 1911, when the latter fell from the gangway into the dock at Buenos Aires.
