John Moore was born in Liverpool in February 1921 and joined Alfred Holt & Company as a Radio Officer in April 1939. Having then served on the Atlantic and elsewhere in Antenor, Cyclops, Orestes and Teiresias, he removed to the Rhesus, in which ship he served in the Pacific, and off Burma, in 1941-42. And he later served off Italy in the Samjack. Post-war, he left Alfred Holt & Co. in January 1955, and went on to qualify for the Naval General Service Medal with ‘Cyprus’ and ‘Near East’ clasps for services aboard the Evan Gibb in the period 1956-57. He finally came ashore in September 1960; sold with a file of research, including copied Board of Trade entry confirming his Naval General Service Medal & 2 clasps.
