Charles I (1625-1649), Halfcrown, Gp. 2 [type 7], mm. lion, tall horseman, horse’s tail between hind legs, reverse crowned oval shield with lion’s skin garniture, unjewelled crown, small e at right, 14.06gm (Besly 2B; SCBI Brooker –; N 2315; S 2869). Old scratch on rump of horse, otherwise good fine, toned, rare (£120-140)
Until comparatively recently the small e on coins from this particular reverse die was mistaken for a b (i.e. Briot)
