Caligula (AD 37-41), Sestertius, 40-1, Rome, Pietas seated left, holding patera and resting left arm on statuette, reverse Caligula with two attendants in front of the garlanded hexastyle temple of Divo Augustus, 23.63gm (RIC 51; BMC 69; Sear 1802). Very fine with pleasing mid-brown patina, rare (£800-1000)

The temple, the exact location of which remains uncertain, was dedicated by Caligula in 37
