Foundation Stone of the New Royal Exchange Laid, 1842, a silver medal by W. Wyon, diademed bust of Victoria left, rev. legend in 10 lines, 44mm (W & E 335 [not recorded in silver]; BHM 2078). Matt surface, extremely fine and an exceptional rarity; in maroon leather case of issue £300-400
Provenance: E.W. Danson Collection.
It is possible that Wyon used this piece to demonstrate the placement of the legend before proceeding with the production of the medal. Brown noted that 24 silver medals were originally ordered, but none had come to his knowledge
