Barre, bust of Napoleon III right, rev. crowned arms on mantle surrounded by shields of the participating nations, cartouche below, named (Alderman Carter, Juror), 60mm (Divo 234). Alderman John Carter (1804-78), citizen and clockmaker, was elected Lord Mayor of the City of London in 1857. He was the son of William Carter of Tooley street, London, apprenticed to Boys Err Burrill in 1819; then worked at 207 Tooley street from 1829-42 and afterwards 61 Cornhill. Carter was thrice Master of the Clockmakers’ Company, in 1856, 1859 and 1864, and was a Juror for clocks at the Exposition
