Frederick George Emmison (1907-95), considered by many as the father of English archives, County Archivist of Essex, 1939-69. Leslie Farrer-Brown, CBE (1904-94), lawyer, economist and charity administrator. Sir Austin Bradford-Hill, CBE (1897-1991), pilot in the RFC in World War I, studied epidemiology, pioneered clinical trials and, with Richard Doll, first demonstrated the link between smoking and lung cancer, see also Lot 1057.
