Germany, POMERANIA, Wolin, Witten, c. 1400, griffin rampant left, two stars in field, da gloriam deo, rev. cross, star and crown (?) in angles, moneta vollin, 1.19g/5h (Jesse –). About very fine, UNIQUE £500-700
Wolin is a small seaport on the southern shore of the Baltic Sea, on the border between present-day Germany and Poland. Found in England, this is the only specimen of a mediaeval Hanseatic coin from the town. Its size and weight are similar to other Hanseatic witten, while its design resembles the coinage of the nearby town of Greifswald
The coin is not unique. A specimen was published in Poland in 1975 where it was described as rare
