Distinguished Service Order, G.V.R., silver-gilt and enamel, complete with top bar; China 1900, no clasp (Lieut., 26th Baluch Infty.); 1914-15 Star (Maj., 126th Baluch Infy.); British War and Victory Medals, M.I.D. oak leaf (Lt. Arthur Leonard Barrett was born in Bombay on 9 November 1872. Commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Unattached List on 30 August 1893. Promoted to Lieutenant in the I.S.C. in January 1895. Served in the Chian Campaign of 1900 as a Lieutenant in the 26th Baluch Infantry attached to the Hong Kong Regiment. Promoted to Captain in August 1902; Major in August 1911. In the Great War he served in Egypt, November 1914-March 1915; Persian Gulf, March-July 1915; with the Aden Field Force, July 1915-March 1916, and in Mesopotamia, May 1916-September 1918. For his services he was twice mentioned in despatches and in January 1918 was awarded the brevet of Lieutenant-Colonel. Appointed Lieutenant-Colonel in August 1919. Served in the Third Afghan War for which he was mentioned in despatches and awarded the D.S.O. Lieutenant-Colonel Barrett died at Great Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire on 5 June 1958.
