John William Reay was born in and enlisted at Sunderland. Originally served in the D.L.I. Later, serving with the 9th Battalion West Riding Regiment, he was killed in action on 26 June 1917. He was buried in the Bailleul Road East Cemetery, St. Laurent-Blangy, Pas de Calais.
