Joseph Grose was born in Wigan, Lancashire, lived at Silkswood, Co. Durham and enlisted at Sunderland. Sering in the 1st Battalion Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry, he was killed in action, France/Flanders, on 22 August 1918. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial.
