John George Fawkes was born in and enlisted at South Shields. He initially served in the Durham Light Infantry. Serving in the 11th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, he died of wounds, France/Flanders, on 29 September 1918 and was buried in the La Kreule Military Cemetery, Hazebrouck, Nord, France. He was the son of William and Ann Elizabeth Fawkes, of 214 Lytton Street, South Shields, Co. Durham.

Lance-Corporal George Holloway, 1st Battalion York & Lancaster Regiment, was killed in action, France/Flanders, on 29 September 1915. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.

Private Francis James Hamer Williams, 2/4th Battalion King’s Yorkshire Light Infantry, was killed in action, on 20 July 1918, aged 19 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Soissons Memorial.
