Private Walter Wright Stanger, 48th Battalion A.I.F. was killed/died on 18 September 1918, aged 23 years. He was buried in the Jeancourt Communal Cemetery Extension. Born in Pelton Fell; he was the son of George and Elizabeth Stanger, of 9 Renwick Terrace, Great Lumley, Fence Houses, Co. Durham. The medal to ‘Stranger’ is believed to have been awarded to his brother but with the surname mis-spelt.
