34th (Cumberland) Regiment Officer’s 1844 Pattern Shako a scarce example, the body of black beaver the flush top the front and rear peaks all of black patent leather, the very fine frontal plate of eight pointed star crowned pattern the seven major rays with the battle honours in the centre laurel sprays and the honour ‘Arroyo dos Molinos’ enclose a gilt circle ‘Cumberland Regt’ and in the centre on a silver ground silver numerals ‘34’. The gilt ball and leaf plume holder and white over red plume appear to be from the 1842 pattern shako, incorrect pattern gilt rose side ornaments and the chin chain is of ribbed hussar pattern, the sweat band lacking but the majority of the cloth and silk lining is present but part detached. The plate is original to the shako but the crown and orb section has been poorly replaced, the patent leather crazed overall and two small areas missing to the beaver body otherwise good condition for age £1000-1500
