4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards an 1847 Pattern Officer’s Helmet copper gilt skull with frontal peak trim of laurel and acanthus leaves spine of oak leaf decoration the rear leaf scrolls are all missing, one being replaced with a plain copper band the ornate frontal plate of standard pattern with central VR cypher and title ‘Royal Irish Dragoon Guards’, upper sections of the attendant laurel and oak sprays are absent, correct pattern plume holder with original white horsehair plume (lacking rose finial), rose pattern side ornaments of the correct pattern but the chin chain is an 1869 pattern officer’s infantry shako example. Elements of the buckram liner are present but both peak linings are missing, gilt rubbed or dull over all, the skull with minor creases and dents £300-500
