Household Cavalry Drum Banner c. 1820-30, an excessively rare and magnificent example (approx. 130 x 65 cms) on a ground of crimson damask the Royal Arms of Great Britain pre-1837 with attendant cherubs, to the left and right St. Edward’s crown over GR reversed and interlaced cyphers, the borders richly decorated with Union sprays and floral scrollwork, complete with gold fringe to all four sides, the banner is now lightly tacked to a board panel. Sold together with two items of correspondence concerning the banner, one from the Household Cavalry Museum dated 1969 stating that it is most likely one of only six made for the three regiments of Household Cavalry, very slight wear to the faces of the cherubs some loose wire to the diadem of the crown, the top fringe of lace part detached, otherwise in exceptionally fine condition for its age (3) £3000-5,000
