India General Service 1908-35, 1 clasp, Afghanistan N.W.F. 1919 (Capt. E. O. Milne, Som. L.I.) good very fine £160-200

Eric Oswald Milne was born in Beaminster in 1894. Educated at Marlborough College. Commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the 4th Battalion Somerset Light Infantry in October 1914, he was appointed a Temporary Lieutenant in May 1916 and confirmed in that rank in April 1917. He attained the rank of Captain in February 1918. Served in India, November 1914-February 1916; Mesopotamia, February 1916-March 1919; then India and Afghanistan, March 1919-August 1919. Received a severe gunshot wound to the abdomen 8 March 1916 - during the attack on the Dijailah Redoubt. Demobilised in August 1919, he relinquished his commission whilst retaining his rank in September 1921. Captain Milne died in Ipswich in 1973. With copied service papers, m.i.c. and gazette extracts.
