India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Umbeyla (507 A. Campbell, H.Ms. 71st Regt.) claw tightened, minor edge bruising, very fine, scarce casualty £400-500

507 Private Alexander Campbell, 71st Regiment, was slightly wounded at the retaking of Craig Picquet, 20 November 1863.

The Regimental History states - ‘About 3pm the enemy made a sudden and furious attack in great force on the Craig Picquet and succeeded in obtaining possession of it. The 71st were at once ordered to re-take it – this post was situated on the apex of a very steep and rocky hill of which the enemy had disputed our possession on several occasions.…….the Regiment led by Col. Hope C.B., soon regained possession and drove the enemy back over the nearest hill……….The loss to the Regiment was however severe.’
