Army of India 1799-1826, 2 clasps, Laswarree, Capture of Deig (A. Greenwood, 8th Lt. Dragns.) short hyphen reverse, officially impressed naming, extremely fine £3000-3500

Ex Glendining October 1912, June 1938, and July 1953.

Approximately 100 clasps issued to European recipients for the battle of Laswarree, and approximately 103 clasps issued for the capture of the fort at Deig. A total of 21 medals issued with these two clasps: 18 to the 8th Light Dragoons, 2 to the 19th Light Dragoons and 1 to an HEIC recipient.

Abraham Greenwood was born in the Parish of Stansfield, near Halifax, Yorkshire, and enlisted for the 8th Royal Irish Dragoons at Middleton, Lancaster, on 31 January 1799, aged 16, for unlimited service. A weaver by trade, he served in India from 28 January 1803 to 4 May 1823, and was discharged at Chatham on 24 June 1823, ‘being worn out’. Sold with copied discharge papers.
