Waterloo 1815 (John Hughes, 51st Reg. Light Infantry.) fitted with steel clip and ring suspension, edge bruising and contact marks, otherwise nearly very fine £1600-1800

John Hughes was born at Monmouth and enlisted into the 51st Foot at Bristol on 1 April 1813, for life, aged twenty-four, a sail-maker by trade. He was discharged at Corfu on 23 November 1824, in consequence of ‘a severe affection of the chest contracted in Corfu in 1822’. His total service amounted to just 5 years 275 days, including 2 years for Waterloo, having been reduced by 7 years 329 days for ‘desertion’, although his later conduct was described as ‘good’. Sold with copied discharge papers and medal rolls.
