Military General Service 1793-1814, 8 clasps, Ciudad Rodrigo, Badajoz, Salamanca, Vittoria, Pyrenees, Nivelle, Orthes, Toulouse (J. Groves, 40th Foot.) slight erasure before naming and several edge bruises, otherwise nearly very fine £2000-2500

Joseph Groves was born in the Parish of Stokland, Bath, and attested for the 40th Foot at Bath on 24 April 1809, aged fifteen. He served ‘in the Peninsula during the Campaigns of 1811, 1812, 1813, and South of France in 1814; in America three months; in France five years; New South Wales and Van Dieman’s Land five years; in East Indies two years two hundred and five days. Was wounded in the right arm at Badajoz and in the left leg at Salamanca.’ He was discharged on 7 July 1835. Sold with copied discharge papers.
