Military General Service 1793-1814, 4 clasps, Vittoria, St. Sebastian, Nivelle, Nive (E. F. Austin, Lieut. 47th Foot.) fitted with silver ribbon buckle, light contact marks, otherwise nearly extremely fine £2000-2500

Edward Frederick Austen was appointed Ensign in the 47th Foot, by purchase, on 11 July 1811. He served with the 47th in the Peninsula from May 1812 to April 1814 and was present at Cadiz, Seville, Puente Largo, Vittoria, St Sebastian, crossing of the Bidassoa, Nivelle and Nive. He was promoted Lieutenant on 30 September 1813, one of several promotions made in the regiment on that date ‘to fill the vacant commissions occasioned by the loss sustained by the 2nd Battalion in the storm of St Sebastian, 31 August 1813’. Lieutenant Austen was placed on half-pay in 1814.
