Military General Service 1793-1814, 4 clasps, Busaco, Nivelle, Orthes, Toulouse (W. Barry, M.D. Asst. Surgn. 40th Foot.) nearly extremely fine £2000-2500

William Barry was born on 23 February 1785 and appointed Hospital Assistant on 15 April 1808, and Assistant Surgeon to the 40th Foot on 4 January 1810. He served in the Peninsula from August 1808 to December 1809, January 1810 to August 1811, and September 1813 to April 1814. He was present at Busaco, Redinha, 1st siege of Badajoz, Olivience, crossing of the Bidassoa, Nivelle, Orthes and Toulouse; and was also present at the battle of Waterloo. He qualified as M.D. at Glasgow in 1818, becoming Surgeon on the Staff in November 1821 and was appointed Deputy Inspector-General of Hospitals in November 1825. He retired on half-pay in June 1826, and died at Bath on 2 June 1863.
