John Jones was born at Wrexham, in the county of Denby, and originally enlisted into the 4th Foot on 12 October 1799, serving in that regiment until 24 October 1802. He enlisted into the 3rd Foot Guards on 5 November 1803, aged 23, a Tanner by trade, and served for a further eleven years 9 days. He was discharged in London on 15 November 1814, in consequence of ‘being lame in the right thumb and wounded in the right hand at Talavera’. Sold with copied discharge papers.
