John Bloomfield was born in Fifeshire, Scotland, on 2 November 1889. A Train Conductor by occupation, he enlisted into the 2nd Section of Skilled Railway Employees at Toronto in February 1917, and went out to France with the 13th Light Railway Operating Company, R.E., in July 1917. Appointed Acting C.S.M. in April 1918, and confirmed in that rank in September of that year, he was awarded the M.M. (London Gazette 10 April 1918 refers). He was was demobilised in September 1919; sold with copied service papers.
