M.M. London Gazette 23 February 1918. The original recommendation states:

‘For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty on 26 October 1917. During the attack on 26 October, when his Platoon Commander and Platoon Sergeant had fallen and the attack was being held up by heavy enemy fire. This N.C.O. rallied his men and showing exceptional powers of initiative, personally directed their fire upon the enemy defences, with the result that the attack was successfully carried forward. He subsequently directed the evacuation of the wounded in his vicinity and showed great courage throughout.’

Frederick Shrimpton was born in Brighton, Sussex, on 19 June 1892. A Farmer by occupation and a former member of the 16th Light Horse, he attested for the 46th (South Saskatchewan) Battalion at Regina in May 1915. Arriving in England in November 1915, he was taken on to the strength of the 58th Battalion in France in June 1916. Awarded the M.M. for the above cited deeds in October 1917, he attained the rank of C.Q.M.S. in December 1918 and was discharged at Toronto in March 1919.
