James Cameron was born in Ballymena, Co. Antrim, Ireland on 13 October 1892. An Accountant by occupation, and a former member of the 103rd Rifle Corps (Militia), he enlisted in the 82nd (Calgary) Battalion at Calgary in October 1915. Subsequently posted to the 50th (Calgary) Battalion out in France, he was reported ‘missing’ and was wounded on 19 November 1916, suffering a contusion to the back. Awarded the Military Medal (London Gazette 17 April 1917 refers), he died of wounds at No. 6 Casualty Clearing Station on 5 June 1917. Buried in the Barlin Communal Cemetery Extension, he was the son of James and Sarah Cameron, of 52 Brookhill Avenue, Antrim Road, Belfast; sold with copied service papers.
