M.M. London Gazette 26 May 1917. The original recommendation states:

‘On 31 March 1917, in front of Souchez, this N.C.O. was in charge of a section of ‘B’ Platoon of “A” Party, and was allotted the task of mopping up a certain portion of the German trenches. He carried out this task in the most thorough manner and his party obtained two prisoners. At the time for the signal for return, his Officer was killed, and his Platoon Sergeant wounded. He took charge of the Platoon and personally saw that it got clear of the German trenches and took its wounded men with it. He assisted in this himself, and carried back the body of his dead Officer.’

Gibson Chisholm Scott was born in Hawick, Scotland, on 5 April 1889. An Engineer by occupation and a member of the Militia and former member of the 101st Edmonton Fusiliers, he enlisted into the 47th (British Columbia) Battalion at Vernon, B.C., in June 1915. With the unit he entered England in November 1915 and France in August 1916. Awarded the M.M. for leadership in action at Souchez on 31 March 1917, he was advanced to Sergeant in June of the same year. Discharged at Calgary in February 1919, Scott died at Calgary in July 1975; sold with copied service papers.
