John Leitch was born in Glasgow, Scotland. A Miner by occupation, he enlisted into the 89th (Alberta) Battalion at Calgary in November 1915 and was then taken on the strength of the 31st (Alberta) Battalion in France, where he was wounded at Vimy on 31 March 1917, with a gunshot wound to the left arm, and again on 4 September 1918, with a gunshot wound to the wrist. Awarded the M.M., he was discharged in May 1919, with his intended place of residence stated to be ‘Elmbank’, Bishopbriggs, near Glasgow; sold with copied service papers.
