M.M. London Gazette 23 February 1918. The original recommendation states:

‘On a working party on 30 October 1917, when heavy shelling commenced, everyone ran for cover. Pioneer Roy went out with several volunteers under very heavy shell fire and dressed one of our wounded. After fixing these men he helped to carry them through. He later went out with Sergeant Orpen to attend to several wounded gunners and helped to carry them out under very heavy shell fire.’

Frank Roy was born in Bathurst, New Brunswick, on 26 June 1894. A Blacksmith by occupation, he attested for the 55th (New Brunswick) Battalion at Sussex, N.B., in August 1915, but transferred to the 2nd Canadian Pioneer Battalion in 1916. Awarded the M.M. for the above cited deeds in the Passchendaele sector on 30 October 1917, Roy was discharged from the C.E.F. in May 1919, returning to Bathurst, N.B. With the renewal of hostilities, he enlisted in the 10th Company, Canadian Forestry Corps, in 1941, serving as a Forestry Foreman in Canada and England. Roy returned to Canada and transferred in 1944 to the 19th Company, Veterans Guard of Canada, from which he was discharged in August 1945; sold with cloth ‘Veterans Guard of Canada’ shoulder badge, and copied service papers.
