Norman Munroe was born in Loch Lomond, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, on 11 June 1889. A Hospital Attendant by occupation, he enlisted into the 17th Canadian Field Artillery at Bydney, Nova Scotia, in March 1917. Arriving in England that May, he was transferred to the 2nd Brigade, Canadian Reserve Artillery, and thence to the 11th Siege Battery. He was then posted to France with the 8th Siege Battery in October 1917, later known as the 3rd Brigade Canadian Garrison Artillery. Promoted Corporal in July 1918, and awarded the M.M., he was discharged at Halifax, Nova Scotia, in May 1919; sold with copied service papers.
