George H. Friend, an Engineer, who had served in the 2nd Field Battery, C.F.A. (Militia) 1903-08, enlisted into the 23rd Battery, C.F.A., at Ottawa in August 1914 but was discharged as medically unfit on 21 August 1916 and died of disease on 31 July 1917, aged 24 years. Buried in the Ottawa (Notre Dame) Roman Catholic Cemetery, he was the son of George and Louise Friend, of 95 Friel Street, Ottawa, and the husband of Mary Ellen Friend, of Overton Street, Eastview, Ontario; sold with copied service papers.
