Geoffrey Mansfeldt Arkwright Humble was born in Walton, near Chesterfield, Derbyshire on 13 May 1893. Educated at Marlborough College and Worcester College, Oxford, obtaining a B.A. in 1916. As a Lieutenant in the Nottinghamshire Derbyshire Regiment, attached 2/3rd Lancashire Fusiliers, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 18 August 1915. Later a Lieutenant (Acting Captain) with the 13th Battalion Sherwood Foresters. With copied m.i.c. and some service details.
